What about after the assessment?

A diagnosis is not the end of the journey—it is the beginning of understanding. At Will Barker Assessments, we believe that what happens after an assessment is just as important as the assessment itself. Our post‑diagnostic support is designed to help families feel informed, empowered, and confident about the next steps in their child or young person’s care.

We know that receiving a diagnosis can bring relief, clarity, and validation, but it can also raise new questions. Our role is to guide you through this stage with compassion, expertise, and practical advice.

Understanding Your Diagnosis

After your assessment, you will receive a comprehensive diagnostic report and a feedback session where we talk through:

  • What the diagnosis means

  • How it relates to your child’s daily experiences

  • Strengths, challenges, and areas of need

  • Recommendations for home, school, and wider support

  • Pathways for therapeutic, educational, and community interventions

  • Our aim is to ensure you leave with clarity—not confusion.

Post‑Diagnostic Psychoeducation

We offer optional post‑diagnostic psychoeducation for parents and young people. This typically takes two to three hours and provides:

  • A deeper understanding of autism or ADHD

  • Strategies for supporting emotional regulation

  • Guidance on sensory needs, routines, and communication

  • Practical tools for home and school

  • Space to ask questions and explore next steps

  • This is a supportive, collaborative process designed to help families feel equipped and confident.

Support for School and Education

Understanding how a diagnosis translates into everyday school life is essential. We work closely with education settings to ensure that your child or young person receives the right support, adjustments, and understanding within their learning environment.

Your diagnostic report is suitable for sharing with:

  • Schools and colleges

  • SEN departments

  • Local authority teams

  • NHS professionals

It includes clear, practical recommendations for classroom strategies, reasonable adjustments, and supportive approaches tailored to your child’s needs.

In addition to this, Will also works alongside specialist teachers who have extensive experience supporting neurodivergent young people, particularly those experiencing emotional‑based school avoidance (EBSA). These professionals understand the complexities of anxiety, sensory overwhelm, and school‑related distress, and can offer targeted guidance to help re‑build confidence, connection, and engagement with education.

If you feel this additional support would be helpful, we can connect you with these specialist teachers for further input. This service is available for an additional fee and can be discussed as part of your post‑diagnostic planning.

Our goal is to ensure that every young person feels understood and supported in their school environment, and that families have access to the right expertise at the right time.
